Biography
Émile Savoie is a teacher, composer, pianist, and flutist born in Quebec in 1998. He studied in Montreal, where he earned his first piano diploma at the Cégep de Saint-Laurent and also studied harpsichord with Luc Beauséjour.
He then pursued his studies at the University of Sherbrooke. There, he refined his piano playing under the guidance of Carmen Picard. He also performed as a percussionist in a symphony orchestra, taking part in major works such as Dvořák's New World Symphony and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. He completed a Certificate in Musical Studies (2019) followed by a Bachelor's degree in composition and music to image (2022) at the same institution. During his studies, he also served as a teaching assistant and tutor in analysis, orchestration, counterpoint, and electroacoustics.
In 2024, he moved to Ontario to pursue a Master's degree in creative and collaborative performance at Wilfrid Laurier University, where he also worked as a music technician and graduate teaching assistant.
His music balances sensitivity and methodism. Though firmly rooted in classical music, he naturally draws from a wide range of genres, allowing his work to evolve into a contemporary aesthetic. A portion of his compositions has been published by the Northern Lights Canadian National Conservatory of Music. Others have been performed by ensembles across Canada, including the Orchestre symphonique de Sherbrooke, the Laurier Wind Orchestra, and the Orchestre à Vent de Sherbrooke. Notable projects include the soundtrack for the short film She Wants To Cry (Festival of Recorded Movement, Vancouver, 2025), the video game Ikolia (Montreal, 2022), and the piece Encre d'écorce, broadcast on radio for the cultural event Sherbrooke prend la parole (2022) and performed live for the multidisciplinary concert Cycles (Waterloo, 2025).
A passionate reader with a love for novels, theater, and poetry, Émile's artistic sensibility is deeply shaped by literature. This connection to language and storytelling naturally led him to teaching — a vocation he has carried from a young age. Today, he gives piano lessons to students of all ages.
